About these attendance sheets handouts

Attendance is a daily habit that only works if the sheet is quick to mark. The daily sheet has a numbered row for 30 students with Present, Absent, Tardy and Excused columns, a notes column for pickups and reasons, and a totals line at the bottom. The weekly sheet moves to landscape and splits each day into morning and afternoon, which helps if your school counts half days.

The monthly sheet gives every school day its own narrow box so a whole month fits on one page. A key at the bottom lists the marks, and it reminds you to shade weekends and holidays before you start so that the grid matches your calendar. The tardy log is a separate record for late arrivals, with a date, a student, the time in and a short code for the reason.

None of these sheets replaces the official attendance system your school uses. They are a paper record you control, handy for backup, for a substitute folder, or for spotting a pattern before a report is due.

Add your name, class and the date or week in the fill-in boxes, then print as many copies as you need.

How to use them

  1. Fill in your name, class and the date range.
  2. Pick the sheet that matches how you track attendance.
  3. Print and write the roster once, then copy it for the term.
  4. Mark every student at the same time each day.
  5. Total the columns and file the sheet.

Classroom tips

  • Write the roster on one master copy and photocopy it, so you only write names once.
  • Use one mark for each status and keep the key taped inside your plan book.
  • Check the tardy log every Friday for students who are late three or more times.
  • Keep a blank daily sheet in the substitute folder.

Frequently asked questions

How many students fit on the daily sheet?

The daily sheet has 30 numbered rows, the weekly sheet has 24 and the monthly sheet has 25. If your roster is larger, print a second copy and continue the numbering.

Can I use these as my official attendance record?

Check with your school. Many schools require their own system, and these sheets work well as a backup or a personal record next to it. If your school needs an exact record, copy the marks over each day, or at the end of the week.

What do the marks mean?

We list a simple key on the weekly and monthly sheets: a slash for present, A absent, T tardy, E excused and L left early. You can change the key to match your school.
