About these planning calendars handouts

The monthly calendar is a blank grid with six week rows, so it works for any month and any year, including months that stretch across six weeks. Type the month and year into the title box before printing, add your name and class, and write the dates in by hand. Weekend columns are lightly shaded so the school days stand out.

The yearly planning calendar is built for the big picture. Twelve boxes run from August to July, each with ruled lines for key dates, testing windows, conferences, field trips and breaks. It is meant to be the first thing you fill in at the start of the school year, and the sheet you check before you plan a unit.

Neither page prints dates, so there is no wrong year and no need to wait for a new edition. If your school year starts in a different month, change the title and write your own month names on the boxes. Both pages print landscape on letter paper, with margins that fit a standard home or school printer, and the day boxes are large enough for a short note about a test, a field trip or a half day.

How to use them

  1. Choose the monthly page for a detailed view or the yearly page for planning ahead.
  2. On the monthly page, type the month and year into the title box.
  3. Add your name, class, school and the school year in the fill-in boxes.
  4. Print, then write the dates and events by hand.
  5. Post the yearly calendar by your desk and copy key dates to each monthly page.

Classroom tips

  • Fill in the yearly calendar with district dates first: breaks, testing windows and early dismissals. Then add your own units around them.
  • Use two pens on the monthly page, one color for school events and one for your own plans.
  • Print twelve copies of the monthly page at the start of the year and punch them in order.
  • Share a copy of the yearly page at back-to-school night so families can see the big dates.

Notes on this page

  • Calendars carry no printed dates: write in the dates for your month or school year.

Frequently asked questions

Does the calendar have dates printed on it?

No. The pages are blank on purpose, so you can use them for any month or year. Write the dates in by hand, which also lets you start the month on the correct weekday.

Can I change the month names on the yearly calendar?

The boxes run from August to July, which fits most school years. If your year starts in another month, just cross out the names and write your own, or use the monthly page for every month.

How do I add the month and year to the monthly calendar?

Type them into the title box in the fill-in form, for example 'October 2026', and the printed page will show it as the heading. You can also add a subtitle or write it by hand.
