About these earth day printables handouts

Earth Day is a good reason to read about the natural world, and these six pages give you something to hand out that is not a worksheet. The designs use a simple globe with soft land shapes, and a sprout with two leaves, drawn in your chosen class colors.

The reading log suits an Earth Day reading challenge on science and nature books. The reward chart can track classroom green habits such as turning off lights or bringing a reusable water bottle. The calendar has no printed dates, so you can use it for the whole of April, and the border page frames a pledge, a poem or an observation entry.

The set has six files with one design: a reading log, a certificate, a blank calendar page, a page of ten bookmarks, a border page with writing lines, and a reward chart with 30 spots. Type your own names and dates into the fill-in boxes before you print. The reading logs, certificates, bookmark sheets and reward charts carry no logo or web address, because they go home with students; the calendar and border page keep a small footer.

How to use them

  1. Pick the file you need from the version picker: reading log, certificate, calendar, bookmarks, border page or reward chart.
  2. Open the fill-in boxes and type the title, names, teacher and dates. What you type is what prints.
  3. Choose a class style. The bright styles are cheerful on screen, and black and white saves ink.
  4. Print on letter paper. Use cardstock for the bookmarks and reward chart so they last.
  5. Cut the bookmarks apart along the dashed lines, and punch the small circle if you want to add yarn.

Classroom tips

  • Send the reading log home with a note asking families to pick one nature book from the library each week in April.
  • Use the border page for an Earth Day pledge that students sign and post by the door.
  • Print the bookmarks on recycled paper and let students color the sprout before they punch the hole.

Notes on this page

  • Calendar pages have no printed dates: type the month and year, then write the dates in by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Is the globe map accurate?

No. The globe uses soft, generic land shapes as decoration and is not a map. Use a real map or atlas from the reference section when you need geography.

Can I print this set on recycled paper?

Yes. The pages are plain outlines and light tints, so they print well on recycled or colored paper, and the black and white style uses the least ink.

Do the student pages carry the site logo?

No. The reading log, certificate, bookmarks and reward chart print with no logo or web address, so they are clean for a student to keep. The calendar and border page keep a small footer.
