Handwriting Worksheet Generator

Type words or sentences and print traceable practice lines.

About this handwriting worksheet generator

Type a word, a name or a short sentence and the generator draws it as dotted letters on handwriting guide lines, followed by empty lines for students to write it themselves. Choose the number of rows and the size of the lines to suit the age of the writer.

The letters are plain print-style letters in a clean sans-serif font. This tool does not make cursive worksheets.

Everything runs in your browser. What you type is not saved or sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Type the words or sentence, one line per row.
  2. Pick the line size: large for kindergarten, medium for first and second grade, small for third grade and up.
  3. Choose how many empty practice lines follow each traced line.
  4. Press Make worksheet.
  5. Print.

Classroom tips

  • Write each student's name on a tracing sheet at the start of the year; names are the first words most children want to write.
  • Use sight words from the Dolch and Fry lists for tracing words that matter.
  • Keep sessions short: five lines done carefully beat a page done in a hurry.
  • Let students use a pencil with a comfortable grip and check that the paper sits at a slight angle.
