About these black history month printables handouts

Black History Month is observed in the United States in February, and this set gives teachers three plain frames to build on. The designs use nested squares and circles in simple borders. There are no portraits, symbols or biographical text on any page, so everything a student reads or writes comes from your own lessons and sources you trust.

The certificate suits a reading goal, a research project or a classroom award for the month. The title-page frame has a large blank panel for a student drawing or a pasted cover, with lines for name, class and teacher. The reading log gives students 16 rows for the books they read during the month, which pairs well with a library display.

These frames are blank on purpose. Heritage content needs careful sourcing, and the site is arranging a community review of this set before any text is added. A plain border lets you add what fits your lesson: a book list, a research title, a student's own writing, or an award for effort. If you want students to look something up, point them to library books and primary sources rather than the printable itself.

Type your own title, names and dates into the fill-in boxes before you print. The certificate and reading log carry no logo or web address, so a student can keep them; the title-page frame keeps a small footer.

How to use them

  1. Pick the file you need: certificate, title-page frame or reading log.
  2. Open the fill-in boxes and type the title, names, teacher and dates.
  3. Choose a class style, or black and white to save ink.
  4. Print on letter paper, and use cardstock for the certificate.
  5. Add your own content on the blank areas, drawn from sources you trust.

Classroom tips

  • Pair the reading log with a library cart of picture books and biographies chosen with your school librarian.
  • Use the title-page frame as the cover for a research folder, and let the student write the project title on the line you set.
  • Add your own award wording on the certificate title line so it fits your lesson, such as Research Star or Outstanding Reader.

Notes on this page

  • Frames are blank by design: no portraits or biographical text are printed. Black History Month is observed in February.

Frequently asked questions

Why are the pages blank?

The frames are blank by design. We have not added biographical text or images, so you and your students decide what goes on each page, using sources you trust.

Which month is Black History Month?

In the United States, Black History Month is observed in February. The observance is documented by the Library of Congress and the National Park Service, linked in the sources on this page.

Can students write about a person on the title page?

Yes. The large panel is open for a drawing, a photo cutout or a cover design, and the title boxes take any wording. The content is the student's work, not something printed on the page.
