About these native american heritage month printables handouts

Native American Heritage Month is observed in November. Native American cultures are many and distinct, so this set avoids pattern or symbol imagery that could flatten them into one look. Instead the three pages use plain, dignified borders made of simple leaves and dots, and the title-page frame adds a soft sky and hills at the bottom.

There is no biographical text, regalia, headdress or pattern work, and no text about any nation. The pages are a certificate, a title-page frame and a reading log with 16 rows. They leave the content to you and your students, ideally drawn from books and resources by Native authors and from the nations whose land your school is on. The title-page frame has a large blank panel and lines for name, class and teacher.

These frames are blank on purpose. Heritage content needs careful sourcing, and the site is arranging a community review of this set before any text is added. A plain border lets you add what fits your lesson: a book list, a research title, a student's own writing, or an award for effort. If you want students to look something up, point them to library books and primary sources rather than the printable itself.

Type your own title, names and dates into the fill-in boxes before you print. The certificate and reading log carry no logo or web address, so a student can keep them; the title-page frame keeps a small footer.

How to use them

  1. Pick the file you need: certificate, title-page frame or reading log.
  2. Open the fill-in boxes and type the title, names, teacher and dates.
  3. Choose a class style, or black and white to save ink.
  4. Print on letter paper, and use cardstock for the certificate.
  5. Add your own content on the blank areas, drawn from sources you trust.

Classroom tips

  • Fill the reading log with books by Native authors, and ask your librarian for a list that covers a range of nations.
  • Invite students to name the specific nation they are researching rather than writing Native American in general.
  • Use the certificate for a reading goal and write the wording yourself on the title line.

Notes on this page

  • Frames are blank by design: no cultural imagery or biographical text is printed. Native American Heritage Month is observed in November.

Frequently asked questions

Which month is Native American Heritage Month?

Native American Heritage Month is observed in November. The National Archives states this on its Native American Heritage Month page, which is linked in the sources.

Why are the borders so plain?

Native nations have many different traditions, and stock patterns can misrepresent them. We used simple leaves, dots and landscape shapes, and left the rest blank for you and your students.

Is the set reviewed by Native educators?

Review is in progress. Until it is complete, the pages stay blank frames with no cultural imagery or text, and teachers are encouraged to use materials by Native authors.
