About these award certificates handouts

A certificate is something a student takes home and keeps. These four are landscape pages with a border, a rosette ribbon, a line for the student's name and a signature and date at the bottom. Each has its own decoration, stars for good behavior, laurel branches and a calendar for perfect attendance, pennants for student of the week and corner flourishes for achievement.

The wording is easy to change. Type a name, a school and the reason in the fill-in boxes, and the certificate prints with your words. You can also change the title, so the achievement certificate can read Reading Champion or Math Whiz and the behavior certificate can celebrate a particular kindness.

These pages carry no logo, site name or web address, so the certificate belongs to the student. Print on card stock or colored paper for a finished look, and sign each one in pen.

Keep the criteria for each award clear and publish them, so students understand how recognition is earned and no one is surprised. A certificate means more when families know what it stands for.

Because each certificate uses the style colors you choose, you can match them to your classroom theme.

How to use them

  1. Type the student's name, the reason and your school.
  2. Edit the title if you want a different award.
  3. Print on card stock.
  4. Sign and date by hand.
  5. Present it in front of the class or send it home in a folder.

Classroom tips

  • Print a few blank ones, with the name left empty, so you have one ready when a moment comes up.
  • Write a short personal note on the back.
  • Use the achievement certificate for academic wins and the behavior one for kindness.
  • Keep a log so every student is recognized at some point in the year.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the wording?

Yes. The title, the reason line, the school and the student's name can all be typed in before printing. Leave the name blank on a few copies if you want to write each one by hand, which keeps the certificate personal.

What paper should I use?

Card stock or matte photo paper gives a finished look. Standard paper works too and costs less. A light cream or pastel card stock looks good in any style, and a gold pen on the signature line adds a nice touch.

Are these certificates free to use?

Yes. They are free for classroom use. They carry no branding, so you can give them to students directly. Print as many as your class needs, and share the page with your colleagues if you like.
