About these gradebook and trackers handouts

Three pages for keeping score. The gradebook page is a landscape grid with 22 student rows and 14 assignment columns. Each column has a box for the assignment name or date and one for points, and the last column is for the average. It gives you a quick overview of a whole class in one place.

The student grade sheet follows one student through a term. It lists assignments with date, score, points possible, percent and notes across 22 rows, and ends with a totals box with an overall percent and grade. It is useful for a conference or for a student who needs support.

The progress tracker records skills rather than grades. It has 13 rows for skills or goals and five check columns, scored 1 to 4, from not yet to beyond. A date row sits at the top of the checks. It fits standards-based classrooms and students who need to see growth.

These pages are a paper record that you control. They do not replace the official gradebook your school requires.

How to use them

  1. Fill in your name, class, subject and term.
  2. Pick the gradebook, the grade sheet or the tracker.
  3. Write student names and assignment headings.

Classroom tips

  • Use pencil for anything you might adjust.
  • Keep one progress tracker page per student for a skill you are teaching.
  • Back up the page with a photo so the scores are safe.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use these as my official gradebook?

Your school's system is usually the official record. These pages work well as a paper backup or a working copy. If your school uses a digital gradebook, enter scores there and keep the paper page as your own backup.

How many assignments fit on the gradebook?

The gradebook has 14 assignment columns. Print a second page and continue if you need more. The student rows run to 22, so a class of 30 needs a second page for the extra names as well.

What do the progress scores mean?

The tracker uses a key of 1 not yet, 2 developing, 3 secure and 4 beyond. You can change the words to match your report card.
